After an incredible Summer Party at the Waterfall Building, the Pacific Club gets back to business on September 15 with an exciting presentation from Andrew Harries on the limitless potential of the so-called “internet of Things.”
The “internet of things,” which refers to the connection of non-traditional devices to the Internet, has exploded as a concept and in reality in recent years. In other words, the IoT is about connecting anything from a coffee maker, household lights, fridge, etc to the Internet and/or to one another. The application of the IoT could have very basic, but convenient, uses (your coffee maker starts brewing whenever your alarm clock sounds – regardless of what time) to groundbreaking technological advances we haven’t considered.
Leading our discussion will be Andrew Harries, an IoT expert with an impressive background in start-ups and business. Andrew co-founded Sierra Wireless, where he worked from 1993-2004 before transitioning to a leadership role with Zeugma Systems, a telecommunications equipment supplier. Today Andrew is a professor at the Simon Fraser University Beedie School of Business, shares his expertise as a board member at Science World, and is the current Chairman of the Board of BSquare, a Seattle-area company that creates IoT systems.
